  Hai Phong, Vietnam — In an effort to strengthen regional collaboration to address marine plastic pollution, Vietnam Maritime University (VMU), in partnership with the Center for Southeast Asian Studies (CSEAS) and the Norwegian Institute for Water Research (NIVA), under the second phase of the ASEAN–Norwegian Cooperation Project on Regional Capacity Building for Reducing Plastic Pollution, organized the International Conference on Marine Plastic Pollution on April 21–23, 2026, in Hai Phong, Vietnam.

From Mahu to the Lease Islands: A New Hope for Community-Based Waste Management

Wednesday (April 16, 2026) – The launch of waste management services in Negeri Administratif Mahu, East Saparua District, Saparua Island, marks an important milestone showing that environmental system transformation does not always have to start from the top. In an island region far from formal service centers, the synergy between the community and the village government demonstrates that collective initiative can serve as a strong foundation for building an independent and sustainable waste management system for a cleaner and healthier community.
