Protecting the Climate, BINTARI Invites Manggarai Children to Plant Trees

Labuan Bajo – Climate change has made the West Manggarai region, NTT drier than before. Mitigation and adaptation efforts need to be carried out and introduced to the community to increase the community's capacity and resilience in facing the impacts of climate change. Farmers, fishermen, indigenous peoples, women, and children can learn together about the environment and make efforts to protect the environment and their future from the impacts of climate change.

BINTARI has introduced local farmers to adapt through practicing adaptive farming technologies. Farmer children also need to learn to practice caring for the climate. Located in Repi Village, Saturday 11/05/2024, BINTARI invited farmer children to plant various productive plants. More than 20 children accompanied by their parents participated in receiving, transporting, and planting plants in their respective gardens.

This activity aims to increase the productivity of agricultural land and at the same time protect the climate. More than 200 seeds of various trees such as coffee, mango, and durian have been planted. The children were happy to take part in planting trees and promised to take care of them. Some children even want to enjoy the fruit immediately. This activity is part of the Climate Change Adaptation Capacity Building (PEKA Climate) project in collaboration with BINTARI and ASB funded by the German Government. (MN)
